Frequently asked questions

Q. What should I wear?

Dress according to the weather, comfortable clothing and joggers are best to wear. Tight jeans/ work boots, thongs are not suitable. Glasses and contact lenses are fine to wear – we want you to be able to see the amazing views!

Q. How much time does it take?

Each tour should take around three-four hours. However sometimes due to weather conditions it might take little bit longer. We find out your preferred time of day for the jump, and schedule it for as close to that time as possible.

Q. Aircraft:

We have a large purposed built skydiving plane with wide door and spacious interior which can hold up to 17 people. Or we can cater to all groups’ sizes, when ever we create a personalized package the cost does increase, it's best to email us and enquire what we can do for you!

Q. Is it safe?

Your safety is our priority.  Skydive Mission Beach holds an excellent safety record, and have been operating for 18 years.

Fully affiliated with the Australian Parachute Federation, we adhere to strict regulations and use modern equipment.

Our instructors are the best in the country, all highly qualified and experienced. A tandem skydive is the safest, easiest way to experience skydiving.

In the unlikely event that the main parachute doesn't open properly, there is a reserve parachute in the top of the container which is inspected and packed by a licensed APF parachute rigger.

The parachute container also houses an electrical device that will open the reserve parachute automatically if required.

Q. How much does tandem skydive cost?

The price of your tandem skydive depends on how high you want to go. There is additional fee $25 APF pay on a day and also Videos / DVD / Photos available for an extra charge. Please see Price.

Q. What is Freefall Like?

Skydiving is totally unique – you can’t compare it to anything else! You won’t lose your stomach like a rollercoaster; it feels like you are floating on a bubble of air with a huge blast of wind in your face!

When the parachute is opened you will be gently gliding enjoying the views for around 5 -7 minutes down to your beach landing.

Q. What if I Chicken Out?

Only about one in a thousand first timers totally chicken out.  No, we will not push you.  If you want to jump, it's the greatest thrill on this planet.  If you don't want to, no problem. You're the Boss.

Q. Can I Drink Alcohol before the Jump?

The consumption of alcohol and/or drugs is not permitted before your skydive and we will not make exceptions to this rule.

Q. I want to give a friend a special present!

Tandem Skydiving gift vouchers make ideal and unusual gifts. Do you want to give a special gift that your friend, partner or family member will remember forever? Giving a gift voucher for a tandem skydive is one of the most unique and amazing gifts one can get. Choose which skydive you would like to give to a friend under our prices section and order your Gift Voucher online or simply call us 1800 444 568 or drop into our shop and get a Tandem Skydive Gift Voucher over the counter.

Q. How many people fit into your planes?

We are using 4 types of planes. Depending on the bookings we move the planes around all the time, but our main planes are all turbines therefore getting you to height in the fastest time with the most comfort.

Q. What restrictions apply?

Bookings are essential. Maximum weight limit of 105 kg. Minimum age is 14yrs with parental consent. Pregnant people and those with ear problems should not jump.

Q. What happens if the weather is bad?

If the weather doesn’t allow you to skydive on the day you are booked in, no worries, we can always rebook you for different day or even other location (Cairns or Brisbane). If you are going to jump from a perfectly good aeroplane then it might as well be in the best possible conditions.

Q. How can I become a licensed skydiver?

You become a licensed skydiver by passing The Accelerated Freefall (AFF) Course. AFF course is the most advanced method of learning to skydive. It consists of 9 stages which provide you with the skills and knowledge for solo freefall and canopy control. Each stage is conducted under the direct supervision of our qualified instructors and has to be successfully completed before moving to the next stage. To become a fully licensed skydiver you have to meet all requirements for International A License: you have to complete AFF course and you may need further skydives after completing Stage 9 until you have 10 stable freefalls of at least 10 seconds all landing within 25 meters of the target. In addition, you will be examined on the rules of parachuting and must be able to pack a main canopy unassisted.

Once you get A License it is internationally recognized and allows you to skydive at drop zones all around the World.

Q. What about my friends and family, can they watch my landing on the dropzone ? Can they takes pictures ?

No problem! It's important for everyone's safety that you respect the staff's instructions and avoid the prohibited areas on the dropzone. Your friends will be still able to watch your landing or take photos and even film your landing - just a few steps away. HOWEVER if you wish to keep a memory of this incredible moment we highly recommend you to choose the video/DVD/photos option as you will not be allowed for obvious safety reasons to take your camera on the plane, moreover this might be a once in a lifetime experience and deserves to be made by an expert.

Q. If there are several of us, can we jump together?

You can share and live this experience with your friends, in a group, although the instruction, training, and the flight can be done in small groups (7 pax max), for safety reasons it is not possible to EXIT THE AIRCRAFT in a group just one tandem couple ( you and your tandem master) following by the other. The important part, you'll notice it, is to share the emotions before and afterwards... What you live during your jump is always exciting and rather personal.
